It's a high pile shag, not a flatweave. The pile is deep enough that your feet sink in rather than sitting on top of it, and it's comfortable to sit or lie on directly.
The smaller sizes can. Cold water, gentle cycle, no bleach, and air dry flat. The larger sizes are too big for most home machines, so those are vacuum and spot clean.
The fibers are made to spring back. Regular vacuuming and a shake out lift the pile, and rotating the rug every few months keeps furniture from pressing permanent dents into one spot.
