The faceted glass bends light as it passes through, so the fixture casts small points of brightness onto the ceiling and nearby walls rather than producing a single flat glowing disk.
The shell is faceted glass, so the facets are formed in the material itself. That is why they catch daylight and ambient room light even when the fixture is switched off.
Square gives the fixture straighter lines and suits modern and contemporary rooms. Circle softens the outline and blends more easily into traditional interiors.
