The thread is 1/8 NPT, which is the standard on full size and mini grease guns. The old coupler unscrews and this one goes on in its place, with no adapter needed.
Pressing the lever opens the jaws so the coupler can be pushed over a zerk fitting. Releasing the lever clamps the jaws around the fitting and it stays there. Pressing the lever again releases it.
The head is larger and longer than a traditional threaded coupler, so very tight clearances can still be awkward. Recessed fittings are reachable wherever an 11/16 inch outer diameter will fit.

The sealing gasket sits at the head and can be swapped when it eventually wears, rather than replacing the whole coupler.
Wipe grease off the jaws and socket ring after use and store it away from grit. Avoid soaking it in solvent, which shortens the life of the gasket.
