They are closed at both the toe and the heel. The back holds the shoe on the foot while walking, which is the practical difference between these and an open scuff or mule that slides off on stairs.
The outsole is molded with a textured tread across the underside rather than being a flat fabric bottom, which gives it something to grip with on smooth surfaces like hardwood, tile, and laminate.
They are built for indoor floors. The outsole is not made for pavement or gravel, and wearing them outdoors will wear the tread down quickly and bring grit back inside.
Sizing is given in individual EU numbers with a foot length chart in centimeters, so the most reliable approach is to measure the foot and match the centimeter figure rather than converting from a usual size.
Machine wash on a low temperature setting and air dry. Keeping them away from radiators and direct heat while drying helps the lining stay soft and the shape hold.
Air drying is the better option. A tumble dryer can stiffen the lining and pull the shoe out of shape, and the toe area is easiest to reshape by hand while the material is still damp.
Black hides marks the best over a full season. Beige is the lightest of the three and shows wear soonest, while brown sits in between and is the most neutral against wood floors.
