No. The perch spins gently when a squirrel's weight activates it, tossing them off before they can reach the seed. It's completely humane: no shocks, no traps, no harm. Squirrels land safely and walk away. Most give up after a few attempts.
The weighted perch is calibrated for birds, not squirrels. Cardinals, chickadees, finches, sparrows, nuthatches, jays, and titmice can all perch and feed without triggering the spin. The four feeding ports let multiple birds eat at the same time.
It's compatible with most common seed types including black-oil sunflower seeds, mixed seed blends, and safflower seeds. Avoid suet or loose millet, which can clog the ports.
The feeder holds up to 1.6 lbs of seed, so there's no need to refill it every day, especially helpful during peak feeding seasons.
Hang the feeder at least 4 feet off the ground and 8 feet away from anything a squirrel can jump from: tree branches, fences, rooftops, or ledges. Placement is the key to getting the most out of the squirrel-proof design.
Chipmunks are lighter than squirrels so they may occasionally manage to hold on without triggering the spin, but the elongated tube keeps them from reaching the ports from above. Most customers find they give up quickly.
The lift-off metal lid and wide-mouth reservoir make cleaning straightforward. Remove the lid, empty any remaining seed, and rinse the tube with warm water. Clean at least every two weeks and check the seed regularly for moisture, mold, or insects, especially after rain.
All mounting hardware is included in the box. Installation takes about 10 minutes with the provided tools. Hang from a shepherd's hook or sturdy branch using the included hanging wire, and make sure it has clearance on all sides so squirrels can't leap directly onto it.

The squirrels haven't been able to figure out how to get into our feeder for a few months now. Cardinals, sparrows, catbirds, and finches can all feed from the weighted perches.
We have a wooded backyard filled with squirrels. We tried every style of squirrel-proof bird feeder over the course of several years, and the squirrels outperformed them all. We'd given up on having bird feeders since the squirrels emptied them faster than we could fill them. Then a friend suggested this one. I put it up months ago, and not only have the squirrels not gotten into it, but it's quite fascinating to watch them attempt. We now have a large number of birds to watch. Excellent product!
This is the second of these I've purchased; if you have squirrels taking your birdseed, this works nicely. The squirrels give up after only a few instances of being popped off. Chipmunks can get on it occasionally, but it's worth the money.
Awesome redneck entertainment!!! When one of my squirrels stepped onto the feeder and began spinning, I thought I'd never stop laughing. I love squirrels, but I was weary of them eating all of my bird food, especially because I feed the squirrels their own food in their own area. This small tool works perfectly. This feeder is incredibly well-made and can contain a ton of food. Although a squirrel hasn't tried it yet, the birds have truly adapted to it.
I was anxious that the squirrels might be wounded, but they immediately hopped back up and tried again. It's metal. The squirrels cannot mess it up. The perches bend over with the weight of squirrels and spring back when they fall off. I believed I had less birds because of the amount of food I used after receiving this. We still have plenty of birds. It's no longer a free for all for the squirrels. Easy to fill and clean if necessary. Holds a lot of seed and has a good finish on the metal components.
We've had one of these for years, and squirrels simply can't get food out of it. Works great for little birds, but not for larger ones. Extremely sturdy and long-lasting. We just bought a second one to add extra bird feeders to our yard.

This is the greatest bird feeder for keeping squirrels away from your feeder. Squirrels will attempt to rob the feeder once or twice, then never again. This product has helped me save hundreds of dollars on bird seed.

What a great anti-squirrel feeder! It's a well-made item that is simple to assemble, clean, and refill. And it does a pretty good job at keeping squirrels out! After approximately a week, it becomes so effective that the squirrels stop attempting. All they do is collect the seeds that are scattered on the ground. Observing the birds arrive and eat in the early afternoons and evenings has been such a pleasure. It has grown to be quite an attraction.
I had a major squirrel problem. They smashed numerous feeders and drove all the birds away. This feeder addressed the problem. I was concerned about the squirrels being hurt, but there isn't much force. They can easily drop down. And my birdies are back. Highly recommended!
This is a very clever bird feeder. It deters the squirrels as well. Nor do the deer tamper with it. I have no idea why, but the deer stay away from it.

It's been in my yard for a month. I got it after seeing videos of squirrels swinging about on it. The guidelines say to mount it at least 4 feet from the ground and 4 feet away from trees so that the young rats can't hop on it. I did, and they can't get to it.
The squirrels are having a hard time getting the bird seed. This is one of the funniest things to watch. The squirrels refuse to give up, doing everything from pulling up on the cover to extending out, grabbing the perch, and taking a ride. This was worth the money; what a fantastic design. It appears to be well-built and will bring hours of entertainment.
