No. The base and top are molded as one continuous piece, so it comes out of the box fully formed. There is no hardware and no instruction sheet to follow. Unwrap it and set it down.
The manufacturer does not publish a rated weight capacity, so we'd rather not quote a number we can't stand behind. In practice it comfortably handles what a side table normally carries: drinks, books, a phone, a small lamp, a plant. We wouldn't recommend sitting or standing on it.
